Starting a new digital project
This page provides an overview of what to do when starting a new digital project.
Talk to the Brand, Comms and Digital Team
At AITSL, the Brand, Comms and Digital Team is responsible for ensuring all our digital products meet our strategic objectives and align with our requirements and standards (read more at The role of the Brand, Comms and Digital Team).
Therefore, at the very beginning of your project, before you have started to create any documentation such as project proposals or project plans, you need to approach and engage with the Brand, Comms and Digital Team. We will work with you to provide advice about how your project and project documentation ensures it follows our Digital Standards and Product Development Process.

Follow the Project Management Framework (PMF)
AITSL's Project Management Framework (PMF) provides a guide to our all of organisation approach to project management. It covers the key componenets required for planning, managing and governing projects to ensure success and delivery of the desired result. You should use the PMF for your digital projects and follow the steps involved.
Importantly, you need to make sure you seek advice and input on your project from the Brand, Comms and Digital Team before Phase 1: Project Proposal and Approval of the PMF.
We will work with you before Phase 1, and also throughout the rest of the phases of your project, to provide advice about how your project and project documentation ensures it follows our Digital Standards and Product Development Process.
Follow the steps in the Product Development Process
AITSL's product development process is a user-centred approach with 4 stages.
These stages include:
- Stage 1 - Discovery
- Stage 2 - Alpha
- Stage 3 - Beta
- Stage 4 - Live
You can read more about the Product Development Process and why it's important here.
If you are working on a digital project, you need to make sure you follow these four stages. The Brand, Comms and Digital Team will provide guidance on how you can ensure you follow these stages for your project.
Follow AITSL's Digital Standards
AITSL has Digital Standards that ensure our products are developed, launched and maintained to our requirements. These standards cover a range of criteria ranging from software development practices to security and privacy compliance.
If you are working on a digital project, you need to make sure you follow these standards. The Brand, Comms and Digital Team will provide guidance on the application of these standards for your specific project so that you can ensure you meet AITSL's requirements.
